The doilies project is a passion project that is a tribute to the women in my family, particularly my maternal grandmother, Celeste.
Celeste, is 83 years young, and crochets the most beautiful table cloths and doilies. While i don't crochet, I wanted to create something inspired by this tradition of craftsmanship that’s been passed down from generation to generation. I have reinterpreted one of my grandmother's crochet patterns in clay, making an equally delicate ceramic, wall-hanging sculpture. Watching my grandmother skillfully craft these intricate designs, has been a delight.

O projeto Rendas é um projeto apaixonante que é uma homenagem as mulheres da minha família, principalmente a minha avó materna, Celeste.
Celeste, tem 83 anos e faz as mais lindas toalhas de mesa em crochê e renda. Embora não faça crochê, quis criar algo inspirado nesta tradição de artesanato que tem passado de geração em geração. Reinterpretei em barro um dos padrões de crochê da minha avó, fazendo uma escultura de cerâmica igualmente delicada para pendurar na parede. Ver a minha avó criar habilmente estes designs intrincados é uma delícia.



The Ceramic doilies take upwards of 8 hours from start to finish, and because of their fragile gridwork, there is a high loss rate from cracking, both before and during the firing process. But when they make it through, they are the loveliest, artistic tributes you ever did see. The love and affection that I share with my grandmother, makes them even more special. 
This specific piece it's called D. Celeste like my grandmother. I've also been developing other designs inspired and named after other women in my family.

As rendas de cerâmicos demoram mais de 8 horas do início ao fim a serem feitas e, devido à sua grelha frágil, existe uma elevada taxa de perdas por fissuração, tanto antes como durante o processo de cozedura. Mas quando passam por todo o processo cerâmico, são os tributos artísticos mais lindos que já viu. O amor e carinho que compartilho com minha avó, torna-os ainda mais especiais.
Esta peça específica chama-se D. Celeste como a minha avó. Também tenho desenvolvido outros designs inspirados e batizados em homenagem a outras mulheres da minha família.
